Arkansas' Washington, Gaines suspended for bowl

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) Senior cornerback Carroll Washington and junior safety Rohan Gaines have been suspended for an unspecified violation of team policy and will miss the Texas Bowl against Texas on Dec. 29.

The suspension ends Washington's career. He played in all 12 games this season for the Razorbacks (6-6) and has 17 tackles.

Arkansas coach Bret Bielema says Gaines could return to the team in January ''if he adheres to all the things we ask him to do.'' Gaines has 59 tackles in 12 games and had a 100-yard interception return for a touchdown against Mississippi.

Arkansas plays former Southwest Conference rival Texas (6-6) in the Texas Bowl. This is the Razorbacks' first bowl in three seasons.
