Ohio State coach Urban Meyer has surgery to remove appendix

Wednesday May 6th, 2015

Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer underwent an appendectomy on Wednesday, according to the Associated Press.

The school had to cancel a scheduled Wednesday night appearance by Meyer at the University of Findlay, and a team spokesperson told the AP the coach could be held overnight in the hospital.

The 50-year-old is scheduled to throw out the first pitch at Friday night's New York Yankees game. Prior to the game, he will be given an autographed base signed by all of current members of the Yankees during a ceremony.

Meyer led the Buckeyes to the national championship in January, capping a 14–1 season. He is a combined 38–3 in his three seasons as coach of Ohio State. He previously was a head coach at Bowling Green, Utah and Florida.
