Coppell, Texas, police have arrested a suspect in connection with the shooting of a BYU football signee, according to a report in the Deseret News.
Montay Kentral Howard, 18, was taken into custody after police say he walked toward three-star running back recruit Charles West and fired multiple shots. Howard was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, the report said.
West was shot on Sunday during a pickup basketball game outside of a Dallas-area school.
According to the report, West told authorities that he and Howard had an argument over money earlier on Sunday.
West was arrested for rape in January just one week after committing to play for the Cougars. He is accused of raping a woman while holding a knife to her neck and was indicted in March on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Because of the rape allegations, West's status with BYU is unclear. Head coach Bronco Mendenhall told reporters in June that there was “no word” on West.
His rape case is still scheduled to go to trial.
