Montana, Northern Iowa to play home-and-home series

(STATS) - FCS national powers Montana and Northern Iowa announced a two-year home-and-home series on Wednesday.

The two will meet on Sept. 10, 2016 inside the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa. They will square off again on Sept. 1, 2018 at Washington-Grizzly Stadium in Missoula, Montana.

Montana, from the Big Sky Conference, has won all five prior meetings, including the last three in Missoula in the FCS playoffs. The most recent meeting - a 48-10 Grizzlies victory on Dec. 9, 2011 - was later vacated because UM used two ineligible players.

Northern Iowa, from the Missouri Valley Football Conference, has hosted only one of the previous games, a 33-16 Montana win on Oct. 3, 1987.

Both programs finished 9-5 last season. Bob Stitt has since taken over as Montana's head coach, while Mark Farley enters his 15th season at UNI.
