SALT LAKE CITY (AP) Jake Rudock started for Michigan at quarterback against Utah on Thursday night.

New Wolverines coach Jim Harbaugh chose not to reveal the winner of the competition between Rudock, a graduate transfer from Iowa, and Shane Morris, before the game.

Rudock completed his first pass, a short one in the flats to De'Veon Smith that gained 6 yards. He then completed a 4-yard pass to Jake Butt for a first down.

Harbaugh has said that Morris, who was the backup for most of the past two seasons, also could play.
