NFL roster cuts: Tebow, Wayne, Cassel released
Saturday September 5th, 2015

The New England Patriots have released wide receiver Reggie Wayne, the team announced Saturday.

Wayne asked to be released, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. He signed with the Patriots in August.

New England coach Bill Belichick confirmed the release was mutual:

The Patriots had been dealing with injuries to much of their wide receiver group throughout training camp and preseason. Wayne had been listed as the team's fourth receiver on its unofficial depth chart.

Wayne played in New England's fourth preseason game, catching two passes for 24 yards.

NFL Roster cut tracker: Moves from all 32 teams

In 14 seasons, all with the Indianapolis Colts before this year, Wayne has 1,070 receptions for 14,345 yards and 82 touchdowns.

Al NFL teams were required to trim their rosters to 53 players by 4 p.m. Saturday.
