MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) Cooper Rush threw for 328 yards and three touchdowns, including an 83-yarder to Ben McCord, to help Central Michigan beat Monmouth (N.J.) 31-10 on Saturday.

Central Michigan (1-1) led 31-3 at halftime after Rush completed 21 of 29 attempts for 301 yards and the defense held Monmouth (0-2) to minus-3 yards rushing and forced punts on each of the Hawks' first four drives.

Mark Chapman opened the scoring for the Chippewas with a 7-yard run in the first quarter, his only carry of the game. Rush, who holds the Chippewas' single-game passing record with 493 yards against Western Kentucky last season, threw all three of his TD passes in the second quarter - a 17-yarder to Corey Willis and a 1-yard pass to Joe Bacci.

The Hawks' defense stiffened in the second half, and Zach Welch scored the only points of the second half with a 7-yard run.
