Louisiana-Lafayette rolls over Northwestern State 44-17

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) Elijah McGuire ran for 162 yards and five touchdowns to lead Louisiana-Lafayette to a 44-17 win over Northwestern State on Saturday night.

McGuire scored on a 7-yard run with 13:01 left in the first quarter and then broke for an 88-yard score on the next series as Louisiana-Lafayette (1-1) jumped out front 14-0 with 9:07 remaining in the opening quarter.

Northwestern State (0-2) charged back in the second period when Chris Jones scored from the 41 with 10:17 left in the period.

McGuire quickly answered with touchdown runs of three and 24 yards as the Ragin' Cajuns took a 27-10 lead at the half.

Brooks Haack threw for 177 yards and rushed for another 55. Devin Scott pulled in three passes for 90 yards.

Daniel Taylor rushed for 60 yards and De'Mard Llorens had 52 yards for Northwestern State.
