California WR Erik Brown leaves team for personal reasons

Monday September 14th, 2015

California wide receiver Erik Brown left the team for personal reasons, coach Sonny Dykes told The Chronicle.

Brown was the Golden Bears’ top recruit for the class of 2014, but the redshirt freshman had not appeared in either of the team’s first two games. Brown, who is 6'1", 175 pounds, earned a four-star rating by Rivals out of high school.

After redshirting in 2014 and sitting out most of the 2015 preseason to address academic concerns, Brown’s chances of impressing Dykes over other receivers were damaged, the coach said.

Brown will retain his scholarship and remain a student at California.

Cal has started its season 2–0 with two landslide victories. The Bears beat Grambling State 73–14, and San Diego State 35–7. They take on Texas on Saturday in Austin.
