Central Michigan defensive lineman Mitch Stanitzek was ejected from Saturday’s game against Syracuse after a helmet-to-helmet hit on quarterback Eric Dungey.

Dungey was lost for the game with what the team called an “upper body injury.”

As Dungey was being dragged to the ground upon the release of a touchdown pass to Dontae Strickland, Stanitzek flew in and clocked Dungey with a late helmet-to-helmet hit.

Dungey was looked at by the sports medicine staff and walked off under his own power.

In addition to the ejection, Stanitzek was assessed a roughing the passer penalty.

The score put Syracuse up 17–3 with 9:20 left in the half. Dungey completed 3 of 6 passes for 93 yards, and added 50 more on the ground, before the hit.

He was replaced at QB by Austin Wilson on the following drive.
