COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) The starting time of the Big Ten opener Saturday between Michigan and Maryland has been moved to noon because of the threat of bad weather.

Kickoff was originally slated to be 8 p.m.

The Big Ten and both schools made the joint announcement Thursday, saying the switch was made ''due to the impending weather impact of Hurricane Joaquin.''

Maryland athletic director Kevin Anderson said the Big Ten and both schools determined the safety of both teams was ''our foremost priority.''

He says the early kickoff was ''because of the unpredictable nature of Hurricane Joaquin.''
