Louisiana-Monroe quarterback Daniel Fitzwater dies at 20

Sunday October 4th, 2015

Louisiana-Monroe announced Saturday that quarterback Daniel Fitzwater has died. He was 20 years old.

Fitzwater died early Saturday morning, according to the team. There were no details available about cause of death.

“The coaching staff and team are deeply saddened by the loss of a great person in Daniel,” ULM coach Todd Berry said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Daniel’s family.”

The Shreveport, La., native joined the Warhawks before the 2015 season but did not appear for ULM. He entered as a walk-on in the spring after two years at a community college. Knee surgery kept Fitzwater off the field for the start of this season.

“The ULM family is saddened to learn of Daniel’s death,” university president Nick J. Bruno said. “Our deepest sympathies and prayers go out to his family during this difficult time.”
