Ole Miss slid down 11 spots to No. 14 in the latest AP Poll after a crushing 38–10 loss to Florida to begin SEC West play. The Rebels were shut out until late in the third quarter, when they converted a 22-yard field goal. They also managed to sneak in a late garbage-time touchdown. Ole Miss turned the ball over four times, and will look to take better care of the football against the New Mexico State Aggies.
New Mexico State is dead last in the Sun Belt after an 0–4 start, and is coming off a disappointing 38–29 loss to New Mexico. The Aggies held a 29–14 lead before allowing New Mexico to score 24 unanswered points. New Mexico State ended with three turnovers, and went just 4-of-16 on third down.
