The South Carolina Gamecocks (2–4) will take on the Vanderbilt Commodores (2–3) at Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday.

South Carolina will play its first game under interim head coach Shawn Elliot after longtime head coach Steve Spurrier announced his immediate retirement. The Gamecocks are looking to get their season back on track after losing two straight games. Quarterback Perry Orth was not his best in a 45–24 loss to LSU last week, completing 14 of 28 passes for 200 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.

After getting out to a 1–3 start, Vanderbilt picked up a much needed win in a 17–13 nail biter against Middle Tennessee. Running back Ralph Webb led the way for the Commodore offense, carrying the ball 25 times for 155 yards and one touchdown. Quarterback Johnny McCrary threw the ball 31 times, completing 18 passes for 177 yards.
