Out of the darkness: Temple's rise from obscurity faces its toughest test in Week 9 showdown with Notre Dame

Ten years ago, Temple—cast out of the Big East for a lack of attendance, facilities and competitiveness—played as an independent. The Owls went 0–11 in 2005, and their football team was close to disappearing.

Now, under coach Matt Rhule, Temple is 7–0 and ranked in the AP Poll for the first time since 1979. It has a chance to reach even greater heights after Saturday's matchup with ninth-ranked Notre Dame. So, why does this game mean so much for the school?
