USC athletic director Pat Haden stepped down from the College Football Playoff selection committee on Friday.
“I am reluctant to step down, but my doctors advised me to reduce my traveling,” Haden said in a release. “With the weekly CFP meetings about to start and the travel commitment involved, I had to make this difficult decision. I feel it is in the best interest of the CFP and also of USC, with our current football coaching change and our upcoming Coliseum renovation.”
The 62-year-old has had health issues in the past, and was reportedly hospitalized twice in August 2014 for undisclosed reasons. Haden’s health caused rumors that he might have been stepping down from his role at USC prior to the 2015 season. He told the Orange County Register in January that 2015 would be his final season serving on the selection committee, which he was also a part of in 2014.
The committee will now proceed with 12 members for the remainder of the 2015 season.
