Grandson of former Michigan coach Lloyd Carr passes away
Monday November 23rd, 2015

Chad Carr, the five-year-old grandson of former Michigan Wolverines coach Lloyd Carr and son of former Michigan quarterback Jason Carr, passed away on Monday.

Chad’s mother Tammi announced his death on Twitter with the message “#chadtough gained his angel wings today.”

Chad was diagnosed with an inoperable, malignant brain tumor in September 2014. He had been in hospice care since Nov. 10, according to a post on Tammi’s Facebook.

The Chad Tough Foundation was created in honor of Chad with the mission to fund research and raise awareness for Pediatric Brain Tumors with an emphasis on Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG).

Last season, the bands of both Michigan State and Michigan spelled out ‘#CHADTOUGH’ on the field to pay tribute to the boy. Chad was also the honorary captain for the Wolverines’ game against Minnesota last year.

Before Saturday’s game between Michigan State and Ohio State, both teams paid tribute to Chad with helmet decals.

Lloyd Carr coached the Wolverines from 1995–2007.
