Texas starting QB Heard knocked out of game with head injury

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Texas starting quarterback Jerrod Heard was knocked out of the Longhorns' game against Texas Tech in the second quarter Thursday night with a head injury and will not return.

Heard, a redshirt freshman, appeared shaken up on a sack. How he was injured was unclear as the tackler appeared to get him around the legs and midsection. It was the second time he had been sacked.

Heard also took a big hit in the first quarter when he was drilled by Red Raiders defensive back Nigel Bethel as he ran out of bounds. Bethel was flagged for a personal foul. Heard stayed in the game after the hit.

Heard was 2 of 5 for 12 yards with minus-1 yards rushing on four carries when he left.
