Long Beach City College defensive coordinator Arnold Ale is expected to be a new defensive assistant coach for San Jose State coach Ron Caragher, according to a source.

This past season was Ale's third as Long Beach City College's defensive coordinator. Before that, he was linebackers coach and special teams coordinator at Los Angeles Harbor College from 2010 to ’12.

Ale was also coach at Bishop Montgomery High in Torrance, Calif., from 2002 to ’09 and at St. Anthony High in Long Beach, Calif., in 2001. He was the defensive coordinator at his alma mater, Carson (Calif.) High from 1997 to ’98.

He played for Notre Dame in 1989 before finishing his career at UCLA. He also had stints with the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs (1994) and San Diego Chargers (1996).

San Jose State finished with a 6–7 record this season under Caragher. It was capped by a 27–16 victory over Georgia State in the inaugural AutoNation Cure Bowl earlier this month.
