West Virginia finished off its regular season with a 24–23 loss to Kansas State on Dec. 5. Quarterback Skyler Howard threw the ball 42 times, but only managed 19 completions for 281 yards and a touchdown. Running back Wendell Smallwood was the work horse for the offense, carrying the ball 25 times for 141 yards and a touchdown.
Arizona State is coming off a 48–46 loss to Cal in the final week of the regular season. Quarterback Mike Bercovici completed 27 of 43 passes for 395 yards and four touchdowns. Kicker Zane Gonzalez finished the day a perfect six for six on his field goal attempts. However, the Sun Devil defense could not slow down the Golden Bears’ offense, which totaled 680 yards.
