Furman's Norval McKenzie joins Arkansas State coaching staff

Furman running backs coach and special teams coordinator Norval McKenzie will have the same position under Arkansas State coach Blake Anderson according to a source.

This past season was McKenzie's fifth as Furman's running backs coach and first overseeing special teams. He was also the program's recruiting coordinator from 2011-14.

Prior to Furman, McKenzie spent three seasons at his alma mater, Vanderbilt. He was promoted to being the program's assistant recruiting coordinator in 2010 after spending two seasons as a graduate assistant.

A Powder Springs, Ga. native, McKenzie got his start in coaching as an assistant at Hiram (Ga.) High from 2006-07. He was a running back at Vanderbilt from 2001-04.

Arkansas State had a 9-4 record and won the Sun Belt championship this past season under Anderson. He has a 16-10 mark with the Red Wolves in his two seasons.
