Former Texas Tech player arrested on felony burglary charge

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) Jail records show one of three Texas Tech football players kicked off the team earlier this month has been charged with felony burglary.

Records show 20-year-old Robert James Castaneda was arrested Friday on a charge of burglary of a habitation, a second-degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

Jail records didn't list attorney information for Castaneda, who has been released on a $5,000 bond.

Lubbock County Sheriff's Office spokesman Bryan Taylor had no additional information about what led to the arrest.

Texas Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury kicked Castaneda off the team May 5 for ''failure to uphold student-athlete expectations.'' Castaneda would have been a sophomore backup offensive lineman.

Also dismissed were sophomore linebacker Dakota Allen and redshirt freshman tackle Trace Ellison.
