Vanderbilt's Jelks, Stankavage out for season with injuries

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Vanderbilt offensive tackle Andrew Jelks and reserve quarterback Shawn Stankavage are expected to miss the entire season because of injuries.

Commodores coach Derek Mason announced after practice Thursday that both players were out for the season. He didn't disclose the nature of their injuries.

This is the second straight season injuries have prevented Jelks from playing. He started nine games at right tackle in 2013 and all 12 games at left tackle in 2014 but hasn't appeared in a game since suffering a leg injury in August 2015.

Stankavage also didn't play a down last year as he was limited by an offseason leg injury.

Vanderbilt opens its season Sept. 1 by hosting South Carolina.
