Charlie Strong has not announced who will start against Notre Dame on Saturday, but says both Tyrone Swoopes and Shane Buechele will play.
Texas head coach Charlie Strong remains mum on who will start in the Longhorns' season opener against Notre Dame, but says both Tyrone Swoopes and Shane Buechele will play.
“They're both going to play,” Strong told reporters on Monday. “Whoever the starter is, is going to be the starter.”
Swoopes enters his senior year with a 6–8 record in his 14 career starts. He was the team's starting quarterback at the beginning of last season.
Buechele threw for 299 yards and two touchdowns off 22 of 41 passes in the spring game, which lasted only two quarters due to rain. Swoopes was 4 for 16 with 71 yards and two interceptions.
The Longhorns are coming off a 5-7 season, which included a 38–3 loss to Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. The Fighting Irish head into the season ranked No. 10 in the country by the Associated Press.
