Penn State kicker Joey Julius opens up about eating disorder
Monday October 3rd, 2016

Penn State kicker Joey Julius was treated for an eating disorder this past May, he revealed in a Facebook post early Monday.

“Due to my increase in not only weight but also depression and anxiety my team physicians started to notice not only a change in my overall happiness but also my performance as a normal human being,” Julius wrote. “Throughout this whole process I learned a lot about myself. I learned that for the last 11 years of my life I have suffered through a disorder known as binge eating disorder.”

He said the treatment was the reason he missed spring practices.

Julius has made waves throughout college football by delivering several big hits on kickoff returners this season. His presence on kickoffs was so dangerous that it made him the target of a cheap shot in a game over the weekend.

Julius is listed at 5'10" and 258 pounds on the school’s athletic website.
