Campus Rush Podcast's Week 9 Preview: Can West Virginia continue its hot start?

Thursday October 27th, 2016

Arguably the biggest surprise of the season so far has been the 6–0 start of West Virginia, which has thrust the Mountaineers to No. 10 in the AP poll into the thick of the race for the Big 12 title and a College Football Playoff berth.

Even more surprising has been the reason behind West Virginia's surge—a shutdown defense that allows just over five yards per play despite facing the high-powered up-tempo offenses of the Big 12. Allan Taylor of the West Virginia MetroNews joins the Campus Rush Podcast to discuss how the Mountaineers have assembled the best defense in the Big 12. He and Andy Staples also discuss Dana Holgorsen's evolution as a head coach and what Holgorsen's job status will look like at the end of the season. The six-year head coach entered the season on the hot seat but now could be poised to leave for a better job if he can maintain West Virginia's hot start.

Andy and co-host Lindsay Schnell also answer your questions from the mailbag on whether Colorado's surge is proof that coaches should be given more time to shape their programs, could Boise State's Bryan Harsin be a target for big-name Power 5 jobs this off-season and more.
