RICHMOND, Va. (AP) Richmond has hired Russ Huesman from Chattanooga to coach its football team.

In a news release Wednesday announcing the hire, Richmond athletic director Keith Gill says Huesman ''understands our culture of success.'' Huesman was a defensive coordinator on Richmond's 2008 team that won the Football Championship Subdivision title.

Huesman will be introduced Wednesday at a news conference. He replaces Danny Rocco, who left for Delaware after going 43-22 in five seasons.

Huesman, a Chattanooga alum, went 59-37 in eight seasons with the Mocs. Chattanooga went 9-4 this season and won at least one FCS playoff game each of the last three years.

Chattanooga athletic director David Blackburn says in a statement that ''we greatly appreciate all he has done for our university and his alma mater.''
