Source: NC State assistant Kitchings changes mind, won't take Furman job

Friday December 16th, 2016

NC State assistant Des Kitchings has reversed course and will not be taking the Furman job, a source told SI's Pete Thamel on Friday morning.

Furman had expected to introduce Kitchings on Friday. Instead, Kitchings will remain in his current role at NC State.

Kitchings, a former All-America player at Furman, has been with the Wolfpack since 2012, serving this year as NC State’s assistant head coach for offense, recruiting coordinator and running backs coach.

He had previous stints at Air Force and Vanderbilt, coaching running backs. He coached tight ends and special teams at Furman from 2004–2007.

Furman went 3–8 this season, leading to head coach Bruce Fowler’s resignation in early December.
