Stanford, Washington deliver a little PACtion; more Designated Reads

• Washington 17, No. 8 Stanford 13. Will this be one of those delightful years that sees every highly regarded team picked off, one by one? What, like you don't want to see a Minnesota-Oregon State Rose Bowl? Cartoon beavers and gophers, clutching flower stems in their teeth! Don't hate this beautiful inevitability.

We do not quite credit Stanford's Trent Murphy with the elusive FAT GUY TOUCHDOWN, but he certainly is burly, and his interception return provided some of the only entertainment to be found in Thursday night's matchup. Stewart Mandel, bless him, actually watched the whole thing and wrote some words about it. Honor him. [BOX | RECAP]

• Injury report story hour. Clemson announced Thursday that Sammy Watkins would not travel with the team to Boston College due to what the school is calling an "abdominal virus." With the added loss of Martavis Bryant, the Tigers will bring along freshman Germone Hopper as an emergency backup .

• Tweets of the day (tie).

• Misc. Is it even remotely surprising to report that Dan Mullen won a wing-eating contest? ... last Friday's ULM-Baylor game set Sun Belt Conference television rating records ... we're rooting hard for the delay of the Harvey Updyke trial so it pushes into the offseason and we can go cover it like a court reporter ... Ohio State clearly fears the might of the MAC ... this is not a snowy hoax; there really is an Independence Bowl worth commemorating ... and College GameDay, if you're sentient and listening, we don't hate to say we told you so.
