There is no more renowned expert on grass in college football than LSU coach Les Miles. The Mad Hatter is famous for grazing on the greenery at Tiger Stadium; in fact, it's a habit he champions on the sidelines. Still, when it comes to regional grass, Miles is a very picky eater.

Miles sampled the grass in Bristol, Conn., during a recent visit to ESPN's campus. He came away with this conclusion: The grass below the Mason-Dixon Line is far superior to the grass up north.

Miles: To be honest with you, I had a blade of grass on my walk from one building to the next probably within the last hour.

Interviewer: Was it as good as what you'd get in the South?

Miles: No, absolutely not. It's under-grown, it's not full-bodied. You can see that it's not really a nutritious feeding area for grass.

Interviewer: We've had a lack of rain.

Miles: No question. You can see it. It would not compare to the robust, green fescue of Baton Rouge.

Judging by Miles' assessment, ESPN's grass likely wouldn't be much better than a two-star lawn recruit, far from the caliber of vegetation that's readily available in the SEC.

One would be wise to trust Miles on this topic, as the coach explained in 2010. (H/T

"I have a little tradition that humbles me as a man, that lets me know that I'm a part of the field and part of the game," Miles said. "You should have seen some games before this. I can tell you one thing: The grass in Tiger Stadium tastes best."
