Florida RB Matt Jones out for season with meniscus tear in left knee
Florida running back Matt Jones will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury, the Gators announced Monday.
Coach Will Muschamp announced Jones will undergo surgery on a meniscus tear in his left knee, sustained in Saturday's 17-6 loss to LSU. Jones left the game during Florida's first series and did not return.
The sophomore compiled 339 yards and two touchdowns in five games this season, and he has 614 yards on 132 rushes in 17 career games. Running backs Mack Brown and Kelvin Taylor will be expected to fill the void in the backfield left by Jones.
Jones' injury is the latest in a string of ailments to hit the Gators' roster in 2013. This season, Florida has lost quarterback Jeff Driskel (leg), defensive tackle Dominique Easley (knee), offensive lineman Chaz Green (shoulder), receiver/return specialist Andre Debose (knee), linebacker Matt Rolin (knee), and defensive back Nick Washington (shoulder) to season-ending injuries.
