In what may have been a pivotal day for the 2019 University of Alabama softball team, the Crimson Tide swept a doubleheader at Florida on Friday.

Alabama won the opener 3-1 as freshman ace Montana Fouts (13-1), making just her second appearance after being sidelined by an injury, threw a two-hitter to out-duel reigning SEC Pitcher of the Year, and 2017 USA Softball Collegiate National Player of the Year, Kelly Barnhill.

Junior Sarah Cornell (17-1) subsequently gave up two hits as well in the nightcap, a 6-1 victory that was capped by a three-run rally in the seventh inning that included a two-run home run by junior first baseman Bailey Hemphill.

Five players had multi-hit performances in Game 2, including a pair of RBI singles from sophomore Maddi Morgan.

Freshman second baseman Skylar Wallace went 3-for-6 on the day with a home run and a triple.

Alabama improved to 44-4 overall, 13-4 in the SEC. With LSU losing the first two games of its series against Arkansas, the Crimson Tide has earned a cushion atop the SEC standings.
