Despite an excellent offensive performance against Ole Miss, the Alabama soccer team had to settle for a 1-1 draw on the road.

The Crimson Tide outshot the home 20-17,  with 11 on goal. But only one went in.

“Playing on the road in this league is not easy,” Crimson Tide coach Wes Hart said in a release. “I loved our response coming out of halftime. We had some great moments in the second half and felt we could have scored a couple goals. Their goalkeeper made some huge saves.

"We kept at it and eventually were rewarded. It would have been nice to get out of Oxford with three points, but we will take the point and move on to the next.”

After fast start from Alabama, it was Ole Miss (8-4-3, 2-2-3) that found the back of the net first. In the 19th minute, Julia Phillips connected from distance to beat freshman goalkeeper A.J. Crooks. In that span, Alabama took seven shots and one corner kick.

It took until the 83rd minute for the Crimson Tide to finally answer. Junior forward Casey Wertz found redshirt sophomore forward Gabby Duca at the top of the box. Her shot deflected off the keeper’s hand but was too much force behind it and still crossed the goal line.

Two overtime periods could not separate the two sides, and each were forced to settle for a point.

Crooks collected five saves including a big stop late in the second overtime for Alabama (8-4-3, 3-2-2).

With only three regular-season games remaining on the schedule, the Crimson Tide travels to Missouri next Thursday before returning home to host rival Auburn on Oct. 27.
