• After leaving practice early during the first day of training camp, running back Derrick Henry was not on the field Saturday and was seen wearing a walking boot.
• Alabama gymnast Shallon Olsen helped Team Canada win the silver medal at the Pan Am Games in Lima, Peru. “This is a really good practice meet for us before world championships," Olsen told CBC.com. "This is a really great opportunity for Canada to show where we're standing and where we're at before worlds and Olympics. Kind of get the nerves out and to show everyone that we're out here to fight.”
• Despite carding a bogey on both of the last two holes, Justin Thomas shot the third round of the St. Jude Invitational in Memphis at -4 and was tied for 10th at -7. He’s five strokes off the lead.
• After being seeded fourth for the finals, Crimson Tide alum Kristian Gkolomeev finished second in the 50 freestyle to win Greece’s first swimming medal at the FINA World Championships since 2005.

July 28, 1977: Chris Samuels, the first Crimson Tide player to win the Outland Trophy as college football’s best interior lineman in 1999, was born in Mobile. Linebacker DeMeco Ryans was also born on this date in 1984.
