• The $50,000 gofundme goal for Crimson Tide announcer Chris Stewart is close to being reached. As of midnight, $45,645 had been raised.

• On Saturday, tight end Hale Hentes was waived by the Indianapolis Colts and guard Lester Cotton Sr. was promoted to the active roster by the Oakland Raiders. On Monday, Hentges was claimed by the Washington Redskins and Cotton was released by the Raiders. Linebacker Jamey Mosley was released from the New York Jets’ practice squad.

• The XFL released its official pool of 187 players eligible for its initial draft, which will be held Oct. 15-16. The list included Alabama offensive lineman Koren Kirven.

• Per The Advocate, a Baton Rouge apartment complex owned by Nick and Terry Saban recently sold for $2.6 million. The Sabans bought the apartments in July 2004 while he coached at LSU for $1.3 million. According to The Wall Street Journal, Terry Saban personally oversaw renovations and remained in touch with longtime tenants, even after they moved to Miami and Tuscaloosa.

• Alabama’s Vincent Kiprop was named the national men’s cross-country runner of the week:

• Alabama finished the first day of the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate in ninth place after shooting 574 as a team. BYU leads heading into the final day at 18-under 542, with a two-stroke lead over Colorado State (544).Freshman Simms Abney led Alabama with a 2-over par 142 (72-70) on the par-70, 7,204 yard Old Overton Club

Junior Patrick Kaukovalta began the singles qualifying round of the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., with a straight-set win over No. 15 seed and No. 73 in the nation Karl Poling from Princeton, 7-5, 6-2.

October 8, 1977: Barry Krauss' interception of Rob Hertel's two-point conversion pass attempt ensured a 21-20 victory over No. 1 Southern California at the Los Angeles Coliseum. A fierce fourth-quarter rally got the Trojans to within a point, but they couldn’t score the game-winning points.
