• In a move that was expected the Dallas Cowboys released Rolando McClain, whose reinstatement becomes official on Tuesday. The move kept the Cowboys from taking a $5 million salary-cap hit at a position where they’re already set, and made him a free agent.

• Former Alabama tight end O.J. Howard made this announcement:

• Per The State, South Carolina quarterback Jake Bentley will miss six weeks with a broken foot, elevating true freshman Ryan Hilinski into the starter spot. Alabama visits South Carolina on Sept. 14.

• We’ll leave you with this (which includes Nick Saban’s postgame speech to the team):

On this date in Crimson Tide history:

September 3, 2017: The son of Alabama offensive coordinator Mike Locksley, Meiko, was murdered in Columbia, Maryland. He was 25. The case remains unsolved.
