• South Carolina coach Will Muschamp downplayed his relationship with Nick Saban during his weekly press conference Tuesday. “I haven’t worked for Nick since 2005. That’s a long time ago.” Back in July, when Muschamp was asked about former assistant coaches being 0-16 against Saban, he said: “As far as beating Alabama, you got to go beat Alabama. They are not going to beat themselves. They are very well coached. They have really good players. They're going to attack you in all three phases. That's how you got to approach that game as far as beating that football team.Nick's doing a fantastic job. He's the best football coach in college football history. The consistency that he has maintained at Alabama is pretty phenomenal. In this league, it's very difficult. But you got to go beat Alabama. You can't hope and wish something's going to happen. You got to go beat them.”
• CBS announcer Gary Danielson on Tua Tagovailoa: I think Nick [Saban] is making an incredibly smart move here by revamping his offense and making it more NFL-ish. And the major beneficiary of that is going to be Tua. You can already see it. He’s handling his progressions better, he’s taking first-down throws instead of AAU throws — I like to call them AAU throws because it’s all flash and dash and there’s no consequences if you don’t hit the big one. He’s great at it.”

• Crimson Tide alum Quanesha Burks finished fifth (6.48m/21.3) in the women’s long jump at the United States vs. Europe track meet, called The Match, at the Dinamo National Olympic Stadium in Minsk, Belarus. Senior Robert Dunning clocked a time of 13.86 to take seventh in the men’s 110-meter hurdles, and alum Kord Ferguson threw 56.71m/186.1 to place seventh in the discus.
