Nick Saban Reacts to Reports Charles Rogers Died

Nick Saban comments on reports that former Michigan State wide receiver Charles Rogers died at age 38

Nick Saban commented on reporters out of Michigan that former Michigan State football All-American and Detroit Lions wide receiver Charles Rogers died.

He was 38.

Per the Detroit Free Press he died overnight. The cause and location of his death weren't immediately available.

"I didn’t know he passed away," Saban said. "Our thoughts and prayers are certainly with his family."

"He did not play at Michigan State when I [was there]. We did have him at the Miami Dolphins for a workout. I’ve always had a tremendous amount of respect for him and the great player that he was. We’re certainly sorry to hear that. Our condolences go out to his family."

Rogers, a top local recruit, played for Bobby Williams from 2000-02.

He finished with 2,821 yards on 135 catches with 27 touchdowns in two seasons before entering the NFL draft.

The Lions selected Rogers with the No. 2 overall pick in 2003, but he never fulfilled his potential in the league. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound wide receiver had just 36 catches for 440 yards with four TD in 15 games.
