TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama redshirt junior defensive back Nigel Knott will no longer play for the Crimson Tide. Alabama football head coach Nick Saban made the announcement in a press conference Wednesday.

"Nigel Knott has been redshirted medically for some of the issues that he had," Saban said. "He was a very good teammate for a lot of our players, he worked hard, really did a good job in this program, but the medical staff felt that it was not in his best interest to be able to continue to play football."

Due to medical issues, Knott was unable to practice with the team since the spring.

Saban was also asked about reserve offensive lineman Hunter Brannon.

“He’s got medical issues that we’re dealing with. He has not been cleared to come back and play. What the future holds for him is still sort of a question mark, whether he’ll be able to come back and play or not. So, we just have to wait and see how that works out.”

Knott played 10 games for the Crimson Tide in 2018, and was the No. 66 overall prospect and the No. 8 cornerback in 2016.

Knott will continue to attend classes and will finish his degree at the university.
