When it needed a big win, Alabama Softball delivered in a big way.

The 13th-ranked Crimson Tide (24-9, 2-3 SEC) defeated the third-ranked Lady Volunteers 4-2 in Game 2 of the weekend set in Knoxville.

RHP Alex Salter was the star of the show, throwing a complete game for Alabama. In the win, Salter threw all seven innings — allowing two runs on five hits. She walked two and struck out two.

Salter is now 4-1 on the season.

There were fireworks in the first inning. After the Crimson Tide struck first in the top half on a solo shot by Kali Heivilin, Tennessee (25-2, 7-1 SEC) added two runs of its own in the bottom half.

Alabama scored two more in the third before adding a big insurance run in the top of the sixth.

Emma Broadfoot and Jenna Johnson both picked up multiple hits for the Crimson Tide. Alabama had eight total hits as a team — Tennessee had five.

It was just the second loss of the season for the Lady Volunteers — the other coming on Feb. 18 against Cal State Fullerton.

The win forces a rubber match between the two teams on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.
