The start of the season seems like it was only yesterday, yet here we are with the Week 2 edition of the SEC Basketball Power Rankings.

Kentucky remains in the No. 1 spot despite being upset at home by Evansville. Count that loss as a fluke as the Wildcats already have a victory over No. 3 Michigan State. The upcoming road looks easy for Kentucky, but it won’t be completely without its bumps: the Wildcats still have to face off against No. 16 Ohio State and No. 4 Louisville to close out non conference play later on in December.

Auburn surges up to No. 2 in our Power Rankings after getting off to a hot 4-0 start. The Tigers struggled against South Alabama, but made up for it by hanging 116 points over CSUN. Auburn should be expected to remain in the Top 5 for the majority of this season as it expects to repeat last year’s Final Four successes.

Alabama takes another nosedive in the rankings after falling on the road to Rhode Island on Friday. The Nate Oats era in Tuscaloosa has not gotten off to the start that fans were anticipating, although much can be forgiven with the preseason injuries and Jahvon Quinerly’s appeal rejection. The Crimson Tide hopes to turn things around against Furman on Tuesday, but it will take a miracle for Alabama when it faces North Carolina in the Battle 4 Atlantis next week.

As for the bottom team in this week’s Power Rankings, props goes out to Texas A&M for boldly scheduling No. 8 Gonzaga as part of its non conference schedule. The Aggies lost in epic fashion 79-49, but on the bright side, the best of their non-SEC opponents is now behind them.
