Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban announced Jalen Milroe as the Crimson Tide's starting quarterback on Monday afternoon.

Saban compared Alabama's quarterback controversy to baking a cake at 2023 SEC Media Days. Today, he believes that cake is ready to be put on a plate.

"I think the cake's been in the oven, out of the oven, back in the oven, and I think it's ready to go," Saban said.

Milroe will start against No. 15 Ole Miss after not touching the field for a single down in Saturdays' underwhelming 17-3 win over USF in Tampa. Tyler Buchner started the game and struggled. Ty Simpson took over after a lengthy weather delay and led the Crimson Tide on its two touchdown drives.

In his last appearance, against Texas, Milroe went 14-for-27 with 255 yards and two touchdowns — his two interceptions led to 10 points the other way.

"From a quarterback standpoint — this is all I'm going to say about this — you know, Jalen really showed the leadership that I was looking for during the game in terms of supporting his teammates and doing the things he needed to do," Saban said on Monday. "He's had the opportunity to play. So have the other guys. Jalen played the best of all those guys, so I think he's earned the opportunity to be the quarterback."

Saban also reiterated that he doesn't plan on running a two-quarterback system.

"We have not considered that," Saban said.
