Alabama commitment Chris Braswell highlights and scouting report

Chris Braswell (6'3/220) is a defensive lineman from St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, Md. St. Frances has been good to the Tide lately as Alabama signed his teammates Darrian Dalcourt and Shane Lee in the Class of 2019.

Like Lee, Braswell is a member of the Rivals100. Braswell is listed as a strong-side defensive end by Rivals, and that's a logical conclusion based on his good work at defensive end for his St. Frances team at that position. But Braswell strikes me more as an outside linebacker for Alabama.

First, his size fits the profile as a jumbo linebacker for the Tide. It's easy to see him playing in the 250-260 range, which puts him right in the sweet spot for Alabama linebackers.

Second, he's comfortable dropping into coverage. This isn't a skill that St. Frances asks of him often, but Braswell can be seen dropping off on zone blitzes and covering in the flats, a skill that will come in handy at linebacker for the Tide.

Third, Braswell has terrific sideline to sideline pursuit speed. Now speed is useful now matter what position he plays, but he shows the speed to excel at linebacker as well as a pass rushing specialist on the defensive line.

It won't be surprising to see Braswell get a shot at linebacker for Alabama as well as put his hand down during pass rushing situations. He is a big, versatile athlete, and a defense can never have enough of those.

No. 1-1

Rivals has him at Strong Side Defensive End, 247 at Weakside Defensive End. I'd list him as an outside linebacker. What's that all mean? The kid is a big, fast, destructive athlete. That's all that really matters.
