Hugh Freeze plans to build Auburn from the high school ranks

Despite adding 12 players via the transfer portal, Hugh Freeze plans to build Auburn from the high school ranks.

Hugh Freeze's messaging has been very clear from the moment he was hired - he plans to add talent to the roster.

Since he arrived, he and his staff have been relentless in adding players to build the 2023 class as well as adding 12 players from the transfer portal. While the portal is one of the big talking points in college football right now, Freeze discussed that a program of the caliber of Auburn's should be building from the high school ranks.

"I think Auburn is one of the top ten programs in the country," Freeze said on Carin and Company. "It can be. And I think when you're at one of those programs, you should build it from the high school ranks and honestly none of us can say that we aren't going to take portal kids to fill holes."

Freeze led the way on finishing Auburn's class before early signing day and ended up helping Auburn land a top 20 class. Now that he has more time before the 2024 class, he thinks Auburn will be more successful.

"I hope with the '24 class, now that we have time, I don't think you can judge us very well with what we did with the '23 class," Freeze said. "The two weeks that we had to get some help in here. But with the '24 class, I hope you'll see that we did really really well with high school recruiting and are able to start developing that over a period of time."
