Baylor Hoops Set For Big East Matchup This Season

Baylor to face Big East for second-straight season.

Baylor Bears men’s basketball will face the Marquette Golden Eagles on Tuesday, Nov. 29 at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee for a battle of Big 12-Big East foes next season, per an official release of the non-conference schedule by Marquette University.

The game will be the third all-time meeting between the two elite programs. The current series is tied in a split, as the Golden Eagles won the first meeting 74-64 at home in Dec. 1998 before the Bears evened things up the following season in Waco with a 72-68 win in overtime.

Marquette is led by coach Shaka Smart, who Baylor coach Scott Drew is all too familiar with after battles in the Big 12 over the years. The two have faced off 12 times in their respective careers after Smart spent seven seasons with the Texas Longhorns.

Drew leads the head-to-head series with Smart 10-2.

Smart, who just finished his first season at the helm for Marquette with a 19-13 record, came up short of expectations with an embarrassing 95-63 first-round tournament loss to eventual national runner-up North Carolina, who ended up defeating defending champ Baylor in the following round as well.

The matchup isn't currently set as an official part of the Big East-Big 12 Battle that Baylor participated in last season when the Bears took down No. 6 Villanova 57-36 in Waco.
