It was a dominating season opening performance for Joanna McNamee's Boston College Eagles as they crushed UMass-Lowell 89-46 yesterday at Conte Forum. The Eagles led from wire to wire, led by senior Emma Guy who completed the double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. While BC's offensive output was impressive, the story of the game was the defense, which held Lowell to just 22% from the field and 21% from beyond the arc.

Boston College started off the game cold from the field shooting just 38% from the field, but jumped out to an early 11-2 lead led by two three pointers by Milan Bolden-Morris. The Eagles were strong on defense, as they held the Riverhawks to just 22% shooting from the field in the first quarter, a trend that continued throughout the game.

The Eagles extended their lead to 36-20 in the second quarter behind senior Emma Guy who knocked in 10 points in the quarter and Bolden-Morris who added another bucket. Guy continued her impressive performance with six more points in the third quarter as the Eagles extended their lead to 66-37 going into the final quarter.

The final quarter allowed the Eagles to reach deep into their bench and allow some of their reserves to see valuable playing time. Marnelle Garraurd led all bench players with 14 points. BC dominated in all aspects of the game out rebounding the Riverhawks 44-37, bench points 39-9, and points from turnovers 33-13.

Boston College will return to action on Sunday as they take on St. Francis of Brooklyn at 2pm.
