Cal Basketball: Pac-12 Picks -- Four Teams Still Alive, but California Is Out

Jeff Faraudo

We’ve reached the Pac-12 semifinals and there isn’t a California team in sight.

What we have instead should be two excellent games, in each case matching a team that did good work all season against one that has gotten hot when it matters most.

Colorado and Oregon understand their postseason resumes still don’t measure up. Will that provide sufficient motivation tonight against Washington and Arizona State?

This week: Jeff 8-0, Jake 5-3

Season: Jeff 85-30, Jake 75-40

No. 5 Colorado (21-11, 10-8) vs. No. 1 Washington (25-7, 16-3), 6 p.m. (Pac-12 Networks)

Jake: Yes, I know Washington beat the Buffaloes twice this season, but Colorado is simply playing better than the Huskies now. We are assuming Colorado’s Tyler Bey will break out of his recent shooting slump. Pick: Colorado

Jeff: The Huskies crank up the defense and let Matisse Thybulle loose on the Buffaloes. UW finds its rhythm again and advances to the title game. Pick: Washington

No. 6 Oregon (21-12, 10-8) vs. No. 2 Arizona State (22-9, 12-6), 8:30 p.m. (ESPN)

Jake: Oregon’s current six-game winning streak began with a 28-point win over the Sun Devils. You can never tell what ASU will do on a given day, but the Ducks are becoming predictable. Pick: Oregon

Jeff: The Devils needed one win at the Pac-12 tournament to solidify their NCAA tournament at-large status. They got that Thursday against UCLA. Oregon still has work to do. Pick: Oregon
