Cal overcame a nine-point deficit with 5:59 left in regulation time, and went on to beat UNLV 79-75 in overtime Tuesday night at Haas Pavilion,.

Matt Bradley led the Bears (2-0) with 23 points, and Kareem South added 14, including the three-pointer in overtime that put the Bears ahead to stay. UNLV falls to 1-2.

PRE-GAME: Cal, which beat Pepperdine in its opener, looks to improve to 2-0 in Tuesday’s home game against UNLV, which entered the game with a 1-1 record. The Rebels beat Purdue-Fort Wayne 86-71 and lost to Kansas State 60-56 in overtime. Tuesday’s contest is the Rebels’ first road game .

Cal was favored by 3 1/2 points over UNLV, which was picked to finish seventh in the Mountain West Conference in the preseason media poll.

3:50 left in first half: Cal 32, UNLV 31. Bradley scored seven straight Cal points and has 15 for the game. UNLV is 4-for-8 from the foul line, and Cal has yet to attempt a free throw.

Halftime: UNLV 40, Cal 38. Donnie Tillman led UNLV with 13 points, and Matt Bradley had 15 for Cal. Cal shot 63 percent from the field in the first half and committed just five turnovers, yet still trailed. UNLV shot 59.3 percent from the floor as it had little trouble getting to the basket. The Rebels committed just one turnover in the first half, and that came with 40.3 seconds left. Cal did not shoot a single free throw in the first half, while UNLV was 4-for-8 from the line.

Paris Austin started the second half instead of Joel Brown.

12:20 left in second half: UNLV 52, Cal 48. Cal attempted its first free throw of the game at the 12:20 mark.

11:33 left in second half: Cal 52, UNLV 52. A three-point shot by Joel Brown followed by one free throw by Kareem South tied the game.

9:37 left in second half: UNLV 58, Cal 54. Rebels scoredt six straight points to take the lead before Brown hit wo free throws.
