A game against national powerhouse Connecticut highlights the Cal women’s basketball 2019-20 nonconference schedule, which was announced Tuesday.

The Bears hosted UConn last season, but will travel to Connecticut for a Nov. 10 game against the Huskies this season. It will be the third game of a four-game series between the two schools.

Cal’s home schedule in Charmin Smith’s first season as the Bears’ head coach is highlighted by games against Southeastern Conference teams Arkansas (November 24) and Kentucky (December 21).

Smith and the Bears begin the new season on the road, opening the year on November 8 at Harvard, which beat Cal last season.

"This 2019-2020 season is all about building on the foundation established here at Cal," said Smith in a statement released by the school. "I'm looking forward to returning to Boston - the city where my coaching career started - as we tip off the new season. Our schedule affords us the opportunity to play opponents from nine different conferences which will expose us to different styles of play, new game plans, and will definitively prepare us for competition in the Pac-12, one of the best conferences in the country."

Cal will play a pair of exhibition games before the season begins. The Bears will host Chinese squad Beijing Normal University on Sunday, October 27, before taking on Vanguard on Sunday, November 3.

After opening the season against Harvard, the Bears will continue its Northeast swing with the game against UConn, which is certain to be among the top-ranked teams again.

The Huskies come away with a 76-66 victory in front of a record crowd of 10,818 at Haas Pavilion on December 22.

The Bears’ home opener will be against UC Riverside on November 17, and Cal will hit the road gain to face San Diego State on Nov. 21.

Cal then hosts Arkansas on November 24, then will host the Cal Classic on November 29-30. Cal will face North Carolina Central in the opening game of that event, and Long Beach State and Penn State will meet in the other game that day.

Cal will then host three more games, against Boston University (Dec. 7), Santa Clara (Dec. 14), and Kentucky (Dec. 21).

Game times for all contests will be announced later.
