Cal Football Video: Cam Bynum Doesn't Mince Words: `We've Got to Start Winning'

Cornerback says there are no excuses after 21-17 loss to Oregon State, the third straight defeat for Bears

That 4-0 start that left Cal fans so excited and optimistic? That's lost in the dust of a three-game losing streak after the Bears fell 21-17 to Oregon State in front of a Homecoming crowd of 42,064 at Memorial Stadium on Saturday.

"We've got to start winning," standout cornerback Camryn Bynum said afterward. "I don't care where we are in the standings. We've got to learn how to not lose. We're beating ourselves."

Cal is now 4-3 overall and 1-3 in the Pac-12, and faces a ferocious test next Saturday at Utah.

The Utes beat this same Oregon State team 52-7 just last week in Corvallis, so if you're into comparative scores, this one is a bit frightening.

This marks the third straight season Cal has started strong, then wilted. The Bears opened both the 2017 and '18 schedules with 3-0 records, then lost three straight each time.

Cal led 17-14 to start the fourth quarter Saturday but could not prevent Oregon State from marching 80 yards in 12 plays to score the go-ahead touchdown.

Oregon State's three scoring drives covered 62, 78 and 80 yards.

Cal's defense was unable to squeeze a single turnover out of the Beavers' offense.

The offense shouldered plenty of blame, totaling just 17 points against an Oregon State defense that had surrendered at least 30 in every other game the season against an FBS-level opponent.

The Beavers entered the game allowing 34.0 points per game - 113th in the country - but Cal was able to manufacture just half that many.

As if the final score was evidence enough, the teams' yardage totals suggested an evenly matched game - each squad had exactly 282 yards.
